Earth Tremours, Mountain Movements
Chapter 1
Owl landed on the window ledge with a hefty thud as he tried to dodge the open window. His whole body shuddered with the force.............

"Mmmm! hooted Owl suspiciously. "Now where are those lazy Oakmen.....
"Don't panic!" sounded a firm voice. "We are here................

"It is just as well!" said Owl with a word of warning: "You will need to be prepared for what is about to come your way..............

"Don't make excuses!" hooted Owl. "Rumour tells me that you are more distracted with other things?"....................................

"There!" said Brimen pointing at the ledgers...................

"No!" said Owl sounding miffed, "That idea is if little cosequence...

Gannon who had been listening from the scullery..............

Days later back at the lodge on the morning of the celebrations......

"Because I am the leader!" said Brimen.......................

Gannon bought it all back under control............

Merva and Derva had been a continuous annoyance......

The King suppressed his better intincts. "Let them in...

"How uncouth; look at their clothes; They are witches......

Derva had his head held tight between her hands while Derva dangled his monocle swinging it too and fro........

The mechanism of the chains responed to the emergency and rattled at an alarming speed. The huge double doors opened and the drawbridge lowered. It sent the rushing wind and rain - of the active storm outside - howling into the castle.......

As the spiteful words echoed in the Kings ears he countered the curse....

Chapter 2

After the celebrations at the castle the Oakmen took a well earned rest with their loved ones. It would be some days.......

As usual Brimens mind would wander into familiar territory as he lay there and soon floundered on the idea of his statue.......

His reverie was then taken up with; "What did happen to D'rasnah?"

Even more evident to the Oakman was how late in autumn it now was; stark and dreary with very little sunshine........

"Then let's ask Merva and Derva. They might have an idea where.......,"

This seemed a reasonable idea and Brimen immediately shouted again to Rooney. "Forget Ffelin! Tell Rat to meet Gannon.........

"Oooh, we can't risk that," said his friends, getting nervous......

"Someone should have gone with him," he groaned. "It's getting late. He should be back by now.........

"Rooney," he shouted opening the scullery door. "Go and find Smithy; Rigg; Stretch; Lobe and Tiny. Tell them......

"It doesn't make any sense; only that D'rasnah is hiding out somewhere in Evermore and that means.....

"I got caught in that raging torrent of storm water," explained Gannon. "It forced me out of the drain and into the river......

"What shall we do to the gnome?" pestered Merva and Derva as they raced toward the prison with their brother..........

The little Sneak terrified at their closeness, was held tight; crushed between the two of them................

Monk became furious at the sisters constant interference and turned brutally on them. He used his staff to prod and threaten them......

His orange eyes and fearful expression showed disaproval as to Monks clandestine operations of removing a prisoner without consultation..

Chapter 3

Owl had picked up his passenger; Sprite and began making his way to the Lodge feeling niggled over Monk's furtive movements at the prison. "He really must tell us what is going on, ranted Owl. "He can't just do what he does without accountability.........

..the sisters; surely he has no right to bully them that way.......

.....The speed of Owl, flapping and dipping wildly about, made her journey uncomfortable and virtually impossible to understand exactly what he was whinging on about........

"It's not good enough!" chastised Owl from his perch. "It is now late afternoon and you have just got out of bed.......

"But we had a very late night!" answered Brimen defending his actions........

"Seriously!" pleaded Brimen "We have not been wasting our time!" he stated indignently."We have retrieved the the golden acorns.....

"YOU more than anyone has fallen behind with your commitment and work." She continued. "It is up to all of you to arrest this slide and I want you all to spend the winter at Isolate.......

"I can't stop too long ," came the hurried response from the town crier as he sped inside seemingly ready to take off again....

...cannot proceed...? bellowed Brimen. "But my statue...

"I'll see you next year when you get back from the mines.....

Their firt stop would be Pewt hill where six carts and twelve miners would stay under the supervision of Smithy and the Smelters. The rest of the caravan would carry on to to the deeper mines at the peaks of Isolate.

To see them off on this long sojourn the little fok of Oak village had lined the steets to wish them well.....

.....amongst the jostling throng he noticed Merva and Derva moving quietly among the crowd. Both of them were in disguise........

"Drasnah has never left Evermore," whispered Merva. Her voice was hissing; with saliva dripping as she got close to Brimen's ear.....

....He is hiding out in the disused flint mine; Do not go that way.

.....Brimen found it easier to dismiss any idea of a return of the Skelt hound and felt safer with making the sudden decision to avoid the flint mines.

At the same time that the caravan of miners left Oak Village; Ersatz was eschewing his guilt over Taz's betrayal and purging his ranks of suspected traitors....

Chapter 4

It was Ffelin; Ersatz's favourite dwarf who had informed him of Taz's intended treachery with his ally D'rasnah.......

This horrendous betrayal was the second blow in succession to fall on Ersatz after he had heard about Merva and Derva's escape, made worse by Culjern's flight to freedom........

Instead he instinctively and furiously grabbed hold of the dwarf that was carrying a barrel of wine into the room and sent him sprawling "where's that little wretch?" he growled kicking and pummeling him to the floor........

At that moment the deformed Jester - that entertained.....

Ersatz fumed at the Jesters rhyme.......

Puzzled by his reversal of fortune, Ersatz looked around the crowded room for someone to blame. "He never did show me the golden acorns," he ranted. "Now D'rasnah has made off with them, to keep them for himself!".....................

Turncoat and one of the sneaks who had managed to flee from the failed attempt - to get the golden acorns out of the marsh, were pushed into the room.........................................

"I shouldn't have listened to you!" raged Ersatz at the spooky image of Taz, that he could not get out his mind...........

For the first time too the warlords could now see these strange little beings that lived in the wood. Transfixed by their existance they delighted in them.....

"I have to tell you," said Turncoat stretching up to whisper .....

"Yes!" blabbed Turncoat. "D'rasnah intened to make his crown first..

Turncoat was spared further inquiry when the Sneak peered out from behind a large backed chair........

Ersatz paced slowly across the floor and reached up to remove a large sword from its mount on the wall. It was a double handed, blue bladed monster with a razor sharp edge........

"Spare me," cried out the Sneak "Please.....

Ersatz could not take another twist in the turn of events.....

Without further hesitation he took one almighty swipe with his sword and removed the head clean off the Sneaks shoulders...........

It was then that Turncoat saw his chance to escape. He took it and ran...

Chapter 5

"Get him!" growled Ffelin, kicking Tether as he raced out the door. The Wolfhound responded with a painful yelp! then went chasing - snarling and hungry - after the terrified Turncoat.
"Help!" Brimen, where are you?" begged the frightened gnome.....

Suddenly a wet nose nudged him and Turncoat was staring eyeball to eyeball into his greatest fear............

'Something is digging into my home' thought Fox moving stealthily forward to investigate.
"Come on out Reynard" ordered the goblin. "Or we will dig you out!"
courageously, Fox went forward and stood defiant at the entrance....

Tether hadn't given up the hunt and was still roaming the wood for another try at finding Turncoat. Again he returned to the same spot
where he first lost the trail in the hunt for his quarry.........

Getting closer to the noisy scene at the Den, he halted. Peering through the ferns, he watched with amazement to see Fox get up from the floor. Stood weakly, shaking his body trying to rid himself free from noose on a rod that the spiteful goblin held onto him with....
